薄壁組織細胞具有潛在的細胞分裂能力，而且在細胞間多具 發(fā)達的細胞間隙，在一定的外界因素刺激下，細胞能發(fā)生反分化， 恢復(fù)分生能力，轉(zhuǎn)變?yōu)榉稚M織（Meristem），促使植物的創(chuàng)傷 愈合、再生，形成不定根或不定芽。在離體培的條件下，分離的薄 壁組織細胞團，甚至單個細胞，能經(jīng)培而長成一棵完整的植株。薄 壁組織主要與植物的營活動有關(guān)，具有同化、貯藏、通氣和吸收等 重要的生理功能，是植物進行光合作用（Photosynthesis）、呼 吸作用（Respiration）、貯藏分以及各類代謝物的合成和轉(zhuǎn)化的 基地，故又有“營組織”之稱。薄壁組織廣泛分布在植物體，占植 物體的大部分，主要存在于基質(zhì)（Ground or fundamental）中 ，如莖（stem）、根（root）的皮層（cortex）和髓部（pith） ，葉肉、花的各部分以及許多果實的果肉、種子的胚乳等，全部或 大部由薄壁組織組成。依據(jù)薄壁組織生理機能的不同，可分為以下 七種類型：基本薄壁組織基本薄壁組織多分布在根、莖等器官的部 ，如皮層和髓等處的起填充作用的薄壁組織。
