其主要功能是傳遞、儲存和加工信息，產(chǎn)生各種心理活動，支配與控 
制動物的全部行為。
組成脊椎動物的中樞神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)：脊椎動物的腦位于顱腔內(nèi)，脊髓位于 
椎管內(nèi)。脊椎動物的中樞神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)從胚胎時身體背側的神經(jīng)管發(fā)育而 
成。神經(jīng)管的頭端演變成腦，尾端成為脊髓。神經(jīng)管腔在腦內(nèi)的部分 
發(fā)展演變成為腦室，在脊髓部分演變成為中央管。腦在開始時是3個 
腦：前腦泡、中腦和菱腦泡，以后又衍病毒成為端腦、間腦、中腦、小

脊椎動物的中樞神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)內(nèi)許多神經(jīng)纖維是有髓鞘的，它們聚集在一 
起時，肉眼觀呈白色，稱白質(zhì)。相反，神經(jīng)細胞體集中的部位，肉眼 
觀呈灰色，由大量神經(jīng)細胞體和樹突上大量突觸組成，稱灰質(zhì)。中樞 
神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)內(nèi)由功能相同的神經(jīng)細胞體集聚組成的，具有明確范圍的灰 
質(zhì)團塊叫做神經(jīng)核。在脊髓中進行的神經(jīng)活動，主要是按節(jié)段進行的 
反射性活動；但脊椎動物的許多活動都帶有整體性，這有賴于腦與脊 
髓之間來完成。在中樞神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)內(nèi)出現(xiàn)了許多縱向走行的神經(jīng)纖 
維束。在腦和脊髓的左、右兩側之間也有許多連合纖維，其中zui粗大 
的是大腦兩半球之間的胼胝體。
脊髓還保留著原來神經(jīng)管的模式，灰質(zhì)居中央管的周圍，而白質(zhì)圍于
